4 Things to Do in West Knoxville This Fall

The fall season brings cooler weather, natural beauty, and colorful foliage. It’s a beautiful time of year to go out and explore fun things to do in and around West Knoxville. Prime West Knoxville is a great home base for older adults and their families to enjoy the festivities.

1. Celebrate an Autumn Tradition

Visit the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum on the afternoon of October 27 for its 10th-Annual Fall Festival. Admission is free and you can look forward to sampling local food, taking hayrides with your grandkids, and strolling through the grounds with the majestic Great Smoky Mountains as a backdrop.

2. Enjoy Watching a Movie Under the Stars

Bring your folding lawn chairs and a warm blanket to enjoy the free, family-friendly outdoor film screenings at the free Movies on Market Square. The season began in mid-September and runs until October 18. Get your movie popcorn ready for seasonal classics and contemporary blockbusters like Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the 1980s Tim Burton classic Beetlejuice.

3. Admire Fall Foliage on a Sunset Hike

Take a short drive from West Knoxville to Seven Islands State Birding Park in Kodak, TN for the Fall Colors Sunset Hike on October 25. Join dozens of nature lovers for an ‘after-hours’ experience in the park, plus an informative conversation about bird migration. The autumn leaves and refreshing air make the park breathtaking this time of year. Keep in mind: pre-registration is required, and there is a $5 fee for the hike. Also, it’s pet-friendly and ADA accessible.

4. Savor the Flavors of the Region

Sample smoky barbecue, homemade chili, and sweet treats at the Taste of the Smokies Cook-Off. The event will take place on the evening of October 25, so swing by this friendly cooking competition held a few miles north of Sevierville. With a $10 general admission ticket, you can enjoy unlimited tastings. Plus, you can feel good about your ticket purchase, since proceeds will benefit East Tennessee’s Second Harvest Food Bank.
